This scroll shows two stylized rikishi (wrestler) performing the traditional Japanese wrestling sumô. In Japan, Sumô is - besides baseball (!) the most popular sport. Interesting and rare kagemono in such view. Honshi: Handpainted on paper Date: approx. 1960 (mid Shôwa). Length: approx. 193 cm Width: approx. 44 cm Material honshi: Paper Material ichimonji: Silk Material tenchi: Paper Material of the endpieces (jikubô): Wood Condition: Very good, fresh colours, slight buckles in the tenchi due to storage; small wormholes in the area of the ten; damaged in the area of the lower ichimonji and the jibubo.
