Kuchi-e
are woodblock prints which were printed especially into the front of (that is the mouth) of Japanese novels and literary magazines.
Produced around the turn of the century (1868-1912).
The word Kuchi-e translates literally "mouth pictures". One can also regard them as precursor of the later mangas.

Format: approx. 26 x 21 cm.
Year of publication: around 1880
Condition: The sides are uneven and some parts show little crease marks. The lower corners (left and right side) are rubbed. Crease in the middle.
Colours: Good and strong.
Kuchi-e are original woodblock prints who were manually produced in the tradition of the old Ukiyo-e.
