Kuchi-e are woodblock prints which were printed especially into the front of (that is the mouth) of Japanese novels and literary magazines.
Produced around the turn of the century (1868-1912).
The word
Kuchi-e translates literally "mouth pictures". One can also regard them as precursor of the later
mangas.
