Original Japanese woodblock print by
Utagawa Yoshikazu (active 1850-1870). He was one of
Utagawa Kuniyoshi's students and belonged to the most important woodblock print artists. His themes were foreigners and foreign uses. But he also created landscapes and pictures of warriors.
This print shows a dramatic battle scene. In the thick of the fight, one warrior bites the neck of his opponent. Both
Samurai in the foreground look frightened at the scene. The print stands out for many details in the dresses and weapons as well as an expressive appearance.
Format: 24 x 35 cm (

Condition: Animated print with wonderful coloring. Minimal isolated wormholes.
