The American Captain Matthew Perry lands off the coast of Japan and brings "modern times" into the country. This leads to rebellions and fights between supporters and those who prefer to continue Japan being a "closed" country. While the
shogun wants to sign an agreement with the Americans to define diplomatic relationships, the highly symbolic
bushido sword is stolen which the
shogun gave the American president as a gift.
