This scroll shows the leader of the
Sugawara family and great academic
Temmangû (posthum) who is said to have been the first academic of the Japanese empire. Due to defamation of the
Fujiwara family,
Michizane felt in disgrace and was exiled to
Kyûshû. 20 years after his death he was rehabilitated and given divine honour.

Overall a beautiful and colourful scroll.
