Foot Throws - Karate, Judo and Self-Defense
This book will attempt to explain the physical principles on which these tecchniques are based and show how they may be practically applied to judo, karate and general self-defense situations.
Although their origin is not clear, foot sweeps have been used to great advantage in recent years by many judoka. The various foot sweps often look alike to the novice, who sees only that a foot is used to knock a player down, but they are actually quite distinct. For instance, the deashibarai (forward foot sweep) is used to throw the opponent who's moving forward, while the haraitsurikomiashi (inward hanging foot sweep) is used to throw the opponent moving backward, and the okuriashibarai (ankle sweep) is used to throw the opponent moving sideways.
